The first long distance rally for motorcycles in Norway was run in 1919. The rally started in Oslo and followed narrow gravel roads through valleys and across mountain passes all the way to Trondheim and back over 2 days – a distance of ca. 1150 kilometers. The rally was organized by the Norwegian Motorcycle Club, and was an annual event from 1919 to 1924.
In 2012 The Norwegian Veteran Motorcycle Club (NVMC) organized a “replica” event to commemorate the Trondhjemsridtet (TheTrondhjem Ride). It was run as a test rally to find out whether such an event would be possible to run successfully in a modern environment.
The 2012 Rally “Trondhjemsridtet 1919” was a great success. The route followed, where possible, the original narrow roads – many of them with gravel surface, through beautiful Norwegian rural landscape.
The Trondhjemsridtet 1919 is intended to be the Norwegian contribution to the Scandinavian long distance historic rally tradition, where the “Skagen”-rally and the “Skåne Rundt” have been successful examples for many years.
2012 we had 32 participants – 16 from Norway and 16 from abroad (England, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Holland) In the 2014 Rally, we will aim for ca. 60 participants with bikes built before 1955. Veteran and vintage motorcycles will be given precedence. The event will not be suitable for the oldest single-speed bikes with belt transmission.
The 2014 “Trondhjemsridtet 1919” event will be from 7 th to 10 th June 2014 along the same route, starting in Oslo. There will be a few improvements in terms of even more period roads. All meals and good quality hotel accommodation will be included in the starting fee.
The event will be run as a FIVA B-event in accordance with the FIVA Events Code.
Start and Finish will- as in 2012- be at Mortens Kro at Gjelleråsen- about 20 kms north of Oslo along the E6. There will only be a very limited space for parking cars/trailers at the starting area, but there are nearby good hotels with some parking facilities. This will be informed on bu later bulletins.
Start will be June 7th at 1200, with some control and registration processes prior to this.
Finish is estimated to be Tuesday June 10th at about 1700-1800.
We will stay at very good hotels: Day 1 at Rena, same hotel as 2012. Day 2 at same hotel as 2012- Quality Hotel Panorama, about 7 km from Trondheim City centre., with sauna and good comfort. Day 3 we stay at Spidsbergseter,a mountain hotel on top of Venabygdsfjellet, a part of the famous Rondane. Here we will have access to swimming pool(!), sauna and anything you will need to heal your sore back.. In addition, we will have a special event - just to round off the 3/4 of the track. All meals will be genuine norwegian high-quality food- and we promise you will gain weight during the rally!!
Further information on this will be given later.
We will drive individually or in pairs, based on maps and road-books that will be presented to you in digital form prior to the rally. There will be no paper hand-outs so you will have to down-load the information yourself. If you need help, we will be pleased to support you.
There will be control post along the route which you will have to pass for registration- just for safety reasons.
There will also be a baggage transport, and a limited capacity for transporting bikes that will need such assistance. Primarily we will try to get your bike running again, as we bring a separate service-car with skilled mechanic.
Please look at the maps for 2012 rally, as these will give you a good overview of the route.
